5k Charity Running Runs

A Charity 5k running event is a great place for beginners to start when entering the world of charity runs. 5k charity runs are generally the shortest distance of all charity running events which is why they are very popular with beginner charity runners.

Some charity runners may find signing up for their first 5k charity run a little nerve racking and that is to be expected. At Run for charity, we can help you take the stress out of charity running by connecting you with our fantastic charities who will help you along he way.

We want all our charity runners to be fully prepped and to actually have fun when running the 5k event. If you are prepared, then it alleviates much of the stress behind completing that 5k run distance. Preparation for your 5k charity run means not only following a 5k training run plan, but learning how to train smart, exactly what and how much to drink and eat on 5k race day, as well as understanding what race day holds in store for you.

5k race training

Training for your 5k charity running event will involve working on your endurance. What does that mean? It involves our 5k charity runners to develop both aerobic and Muscular endurance. 5k charity runners will find that if they focus on endurance in training, the charity running event will be a breeze! The most effective way to achieve this endurance is basically to run frequently. Sound easy enough? Try running every 2 days and every 2nd day push yourself a little extra – this is the way to build endurance for your 5k run.

5k charity runs are an endurance test

When envisaging your first 5k charity run, think more about endurance than speed. It’s getting to that finish line in support of your charity. We say it again, when starting out in a 5k run, forget speed, even the world’s best 5k runners do not run the 5k at their fastest speed. Think about trying to run the 5k at a speed that you can endure for the whole 5k. Faster isn’t always better, especially for those new to charity running or a 5k run.

How to Fuel your 5k run

Did you know that what you eat and drink has a direct effect on your stamina and energy levels and how easily you can access these during your 5k run. A 5k charity running event is considered one of the  shorter distances of charity running events and therefore you will need to tap into your carbohydrate storage. To ensure you have enough the correct level of carbs in your system refer to training and nutrition plans for 5k runs. Do be careful as overeating carbs in preparation for your race day can leave you feeling sluggish for your 5k run.

5k race day ready

Being prepared for your 5k charity race day is more important that you may give it credit for. Over the years at Run for charity, we can’t tell you how many people we have seen turn up at the wrong time for their 5k charity run or worse still, turn up for the 5k running race on the wrong day – that’s got to be embarrassing. Check your 5k race day time and date, make sure you leave ample travel time, check parking restrictions.
